What books do you want?
Sometimes, if I get a free moment at work, I’ll walk over to the main building where the rest of the offices are and walk around seeing if I can bother anyone. Most of the time, if I’m over there, I have reason to be there - but every once in a while I become productivity’s worst nightmare. A couple weeks ago, I was on one of my journeys and I ended up in one guy’s office - he’s awesome, been on staff for a while, and he looked at his bookshelf while we were talking and said, “so, what books do you want?” I said “actually I think you should tell me what to read.” For one, I don’t know anything, and two he’s way cooler than me.
He thought about it for a second and started handing me a few books that he had great backstories for, with the caveat that I read them and, if I like one, then buy a copy, if I don’t like them, then don’t buy a copy, but either way bring them back. I’ve just started to dip into The Wonder Of It All by Bryan Chapell, that’s our book of the week!
I think this week is a good opportunity to say that I’ve had writer’s block for the past few days. I actually just wrote out a longer article, then deleted it because it felt forced. Maybe this week the lesson is to allow yourself some grace. :) Take some time off this weekend.
In love,
Josh
